| Young Investigator Travel Grants |
| A total amount of US$100,000 (JPY 10,700,000) will be prepared for the Travel Grants to encourage young investigators to participate in IUPS 2009 Kyoto. Applicants must submit an abstract as a presenting author followed by submission of material to Secretariat of IUPS 2009. | Submission Deadline: |
| Since applicants must submit an abstract through our website, submission starts simultaneously with the onset of abstract submission. |
| Call for Abstract/Travel Grant Application: Sept. 1 - Dec. 10, 2008 |
| When you submit an abstract, be sure to check the box that you are willing to apply the Travel Grant. Then, the whole application package should be arrived no later than 7 days after the deadline date of abstract submission. PLEASE NOTE THAT REGISTRATION FEE WILL NOT BE WAIVED FOR RECIPIENT OF THE TRAVEL GRANT. |

| Eligibility: |
Applicants must submit an abstract as a presenting author through our website, first. When you submit an abstract, be sure to check the box that you are willing to apply the Young Investigator Travel Grant.
In addition, applicants must: |
- register for IUPS2009 through the website during early registration period (Sept. 1, 2008 - Apr. 17, 2009).
- be 45 years or under on Aug. 1st, 2009.
- be an undergraduate/pre-doctoral student, or postdoctoral fellow who is not currently enrolled in the tenure-tack program. Lecturers who do not have doctoral degree but are mainly involved in teaching, are also encouraged to apply.
- send a complete set of required materials (see below) to the Travel Grant Committee by the deadline.
You may apply travel grant with only one abstract.

| Selection Criteria: |
| Applications are reviewed by the Travel Grant Committee of IUPS2009. Selections are made based on the scientific quality of the submitted abstract. The ratio of recipients from each Continent is also considered. Number of recipients is contingent upon the availability of funds and the number of applications. |

| Please note that registration fee is not waived for Travel Grant recipients. |

| Notification of Awards: |
| All applicants will be noticed as to whether he/she will or will not receive a Travel Grant. Recipients should complete the registration by the end of early registration period, April 17, 2009. The award money will be granted at the IUPS 2009 head office in the venue during the congress. |
- a copy of the submitted abstract with the abstract submission number
- short curriculum vitae
- a copy of the passport, in which applicantfs photograph is included
- a letter of recommendation from a department head on official letterhead

| Application Format and Submission: |
| Certificate of Travel Grant will be mailed to all recipients. The Travel Grant Committee will also support to obtain Japanese visa for recipients upon request, after the registration fee payment has been confirmed. The Secretariat of IUPS2009 can also provide housing information when necessary. Please note, however, WE CANNOT SUPPORT TO OBTAIN TRANSIT VISA FOR OTHER COUNTRIES. |
